How to fit this handle?

Could someone please give me a suggestion of how to get this handle apart so I can fit it to my window?

Am I missing something simple here?

the bit you have lifted with your finger should twist through 90 degs ( around the spindle )

if thats a new handle, it may have a spindle that is too long -you may have to cut it down with a hacksaw
