Hi there,

I’ve been reading a lot of posts about flooring and insulation but I’m confused as ever!

I’ve recently lifted all the floorboards on a first floor bedroom to move some pipework.

Before putting the boards back I thought I’d fill the voids between the joists with insulation as there’s none.

Below the bedroom is the kitchen.

Can anyone recommend what insulation I should use and do I need some sort of vapour barrier or can I just fill the voids with any insulation?

Thanks

Nay

For energy saving heat. The kitchen is freezing!
general comment

if you have insulation in the kitchen ceiling, unless it stops any airflow via the ceiling void and say wall cavities its only effect will be to maintain the cold off the kitchen in a similar way to a fridge
in general, heat creep and transfer in a house is normal as rooms tend to be within say 5- 10% the heat movement is not wasted energy as it still heats the house
removing draughts and unwanted airflow from say outside and roof voids are far cheaper and more effective with less disruption in general
in other words doors'windows'fireplaces'pipe entry points are worth sealing up iff airflow is found
