How to locate fault in ring

Please describe how you would go about finding a break in a ring, either complete break, or just one of the conductors, using an ohmeter. Thanks
 
test end to end of each conductor phase, Neutral CPC these should be low values less than 0.5ohms the cpc will be slightly higher anything above 1 would indicate a fault.

Then work along each section of the ring until you find it, using the same method
 
And what if you don't know how the ring is wired ? The sockets are distances apart that the test leads can't reach? It's a complete break, this sounds very time consuming
 
You can test and narrow it down the length between 2 sockets, then all you need to do is figure out how the wiring is between them,
For example remove all 6 conductors at CU. Short L-E conductors on one leg only. Test at each socket for L-E continuity till you find you don't have it anymore.
Do the same for the other leg.
OK, it isn't perfect but should give you a rough idea.

So pop into Maplin and get your self 10/15/25m of single core wire to extend your test leads.

Either:

a) develop x-ray vision.

b) switch to a career where you don't have to have an attention span longer than a hyperactive toddler on Red Bull.
