Hello all

My friend is living in a student flat and wants to lock his bedroom door when out and I am trying to help him find a way to lock it. Heres a photo of the door.

If anyone has any links to products that I could use I would be most grateful.

probably a 3" cranked brass door bolt
but that wont lock the door
did it have padlock on it ??

Thanks, I dont know if it had a padlock on them, we can just see the remnants of a what looks like a 3" cranked brass door bolt which is what you think it looks like also.
But how do you put a padlock though a 3" cranked brass door bolt?? What type of pad lock ie size (a link would be better) would fit a 3" cranked brass door bolt? and where would it be inserted into the 3" cranked brass door bolt?

how about this?

would this work on the outside of a bedroom door looking at the pic of the outside of the bedroom door and would it lock the outside of the bedroom door?

that looks like an old panelled door.

Probably it had a mortice latch or lock on it in the past.

please photograph the entire door, including any door handles or marks, and also any marks on the closing edge of the door.

What level of security do you want? To keep children out? To keep burglars out? To keep hostages in?

Is it your own house or do you rent it?

OK heres more pics of the door

Level of security is just low, its for a friend who lives in a student flat and wants to lock his bedroom door when he is out.

Fox, that sounds very complex, what is a key operated spindle? is there any thing simpler? We dont want to mess with the door handle.

Do you think it matters that the door and door frame is hollow?

How about either of these two products? Would they work do you think?

The trouble with the chain one is that other students can still see in the room a little as the way its fitted it has to be loose enough to put the chain in right?

Thanks, where would the padlock go on it? and how would it prevent it from being opened?

all them are good but like someone said what if someone locks you inside the room for a joke..lol, what about this HERE...should odt he job..

Check the Tennancy agreement.

If you can lock the bedroom door the conditions change v a shared house
The landlord might get iffy if you screw to the woodwork

There used to be things you could buy for backpacking that fitted between the frame but maybe only so you could lock yourself in

very simple, door handle is not touched, simply fitted in door frame . Keyed spindle plate is available .

?

Not really would probably just be a straight swap, basically it's a knob set that has a key lock on it, it prevents the handle being turned which means the latch can't be retracted
