How to make a concealed door?

The vestibule of our c.1900's house has been artexed but some previous house owner, skirting to cornice.

Plan is to remove this - seems to have been applied to a gloss type paint finish so scrapes off easily - and replace with tongue and groove cladding to, say, a 3ft height.

the problem is that there is a smallish access door to the under stairs void and I would like to keep this as it also gives access to W.C. plumbing and some of the void under the floor.

any idea how I can incorporate a concealed door when using tongue and groove?

You could allow , say four plank widths as your door and as you nail on the T & G and then get to where you want your door, apply double sided tape to the four lengths and stick them in place rather than nail them and it will look like you fastened them like the rest. You can then remove them whenever you need to and replace them by arching them into the tongues and pushing them back home. To keep them together you could even staple a few strips of fabric to the back of them.

I'd run the skirting and top trim straignt through. Then fix 3-4 lengths of the T&G to a bit of ply/MDF and fix with magnetic or snap catches.

Get that Artex tested before you start stripping, older stuff can contains asbestos
