How to remove/replace holder in standing lamp

Does anyone know how to replace the 'cup/socket' (not sure of correct term) in this standing lamp?
The socket is slightly broken and causing flickering. I've tried to firmly remove it by turning/pushing/pulling but nothing shifts and I don't want it to snap.
There is no way of opening up the metal housing so it must (?) be some sort of thread or clip.
Any ideas?

Does the ring with the chamferred top unscrew. If you get it off please ensure you rewire it properly, that looks like an accident waiting to happen
