Hi, I currently have a burger alarm fitted, and it is connected to my CU under "light" 5A fuse.

The problem i have now, is I need to cut off the power on the "light" fuse to be able to change a light fittings on the ceiling. But as soon as I cut the power, the alarm sounds in my balcony.

I wonder how can I stop it? so I can cut the power off and change my new lights from ikea..... :(

any help? Many thanks in advance.

the standby battery in the panel is flat, thats why the one in the external sounder operates.

You shoud change the battery, suppose you have a powercut, neighbours will love you

my old alarm sounded when the power was cut. does your alarm have a test feature? if it does, put it on that and itll stop it from sounding

Hi, yes it has an alarm test feature. Do you mean put it on test mode, then cut the power off in CU?

Your back up battery in the panel IS flat. This needs sorting. If you turn ALL your power off, or have a power cut, the alarm will sound.

You NEED to sort a new battery!

yes. put it in that. it should stop it sounding

i would recommend you also check the condition of the battery. it may be flat /not holding its charge

Putting a system in a 'test' will not prevent the external sounder operating when IT looses it's 12v power.

the only thing that somes close to what you are suggesting is the engineer mode on texecom kit - and you have to pulse the strobe 3 times to activate that.

Am I missing something here?

For alarms, you may find this site usefull - http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/index.php

thats what i done on an old alarm of mine. the battery was in good workin condition.

Somthing is wrong here, if there is a battery in the alarm panel why is it not charging. Is the battery dead and cannot hold a charge or has the fuse blown within the charging circuit inside the panel. It is correct an alarm panel should never trigger if it has a backup battery fitted in the event of a mains failure. I've had the power go off for at least 16 hours and still no problem off the backup battery in my panel.

it was an old alarm. my dads alarm used to do the same thing aswell, until i recently discovered the battery was faulty

the most commonly used alarm panel standby battery is made by Yuasa. It has a usefull life of 5 years, older than that and they should be changed. Chances are the battery has never been tested / changed. That is why the external sounder operates in a powercut, the panel is dead (no mains) and the standby battery is flat (well oblong actually)

I suspect that vern is actually HamBurglar in disguise.

What you need to do is disable the fish and micro chips on the breadboard. Watch out for static though, or they may become Kentucky Fried. Should be a pitza cake.
