We have just had white oak internal doors and staircase fitted.
Can anyone tell me which is the best method of treating them please - do we use an oil of some sort?

we recently fitted an american white oak staircase and the decorator used a clear laquer, it allowed the grain of the timber to still be seen and protected the wood!!!

Thanks.

We've had to order some kind of oil that you apply with a brush. Sounds like it gives the same result as your laquer. Here's hoping...

Yes, check with the door manufacturer and follow their instructions to the letter.

Otherwise if something goes wrong with the door, they nearly all just automaticly blame the finish or lack of, regardless of the true cause.

Thanks - will bear that in mind.

Well who else knows their products better? If I want to know about a medicine I ask the pharmacist. Very informative pharmacists.

I have worked on site where there was a guy who specialises in oak.He used danish oil for the staircase he was fitting.

Thank you everyone, old or new posts. The information has been very usefull as I bought a house with all new oak doors, skirtig etc and was thinking about treating them, and did not want to make an expensive or unsightly mistake
