how to contact the landing light to 3 switches; one at the bottom of the stairs, one at the top of the stairs and the third onw will be further down the upstairs landing. I have wired 2 way lights and I assume the the third switch (which is the further down the upstairs landing) will be the same as the one on the top of the stairs, ie the common the the common and the L1 to L1 and L2 to L2. Am I right and thinking this way.

As you seem to know how to do Two way just think of the 2 strapper wires L1 and L2. basically you are just cutting them both and thats where your Intermediate fits, it just basically switches either,
Position one, L1 in joins to L1 out, as well as L2 in joins to L2 out
Position two L1 in joins to L2 out as well as L2 in joins to L1 out
Hence the 4 terminals
The other two switches both remain the same as with a Two way circuit, as you say, COM, L1 and L2

It is possible to reconfigure an existing 2 way into a 3 way system, if thats your plan, by running a 3core and earth to your new position, from one of your existing 2 way switches and using a connecter within that Doner switches box, along with your new intermediate front plate.
The 2 way switch you remove will then relocate to your new 3rd position.
