Hi,
I’m replacing the light switch at the top of the stairs - it’s a regular set up, the landing light can be switched from upstairs or down stairs.

I thought it would be simple but think I might have bought the wrong switch.
The switch has one wire coming down into it (red) and two wires coming up (red and black), the switch has three terminals, none of them labelled, it has the word ‘top’ which is upside down.
The switch I’ve bought has four terminals, L1 & L1 and L2 & L2 at the bottom - can this be used or have I bough the wrong switch?

I think you have purchased an intermediate switch.

Connect l1 to the wire that goes up

And l2 and l2 to the wires that go down.
A job for Boxing Day !

Concur. Use 1 top terminal and the two bottom ones.

Bob's your Unc.

Thanks guys.

it’s an intermediate switch, it has the word ‘intermediate’ across the middle.

wired up as suggested - working perfectly
