I want to junk my Hudson reid mixer as it does not seem to work with my Baxi 105 HE combi boiler. It uses 22mm pipes and not the usual 15mm. It has 130 mm pipe centers.

Down at B&Q everything is 15mm pipes.

I want to put in a manual mixer but with the same 22mm pipe size adn 130 mm pipoe centers.

Can I get round this problem ?

Junking one of the best mixer on the market don't sound like a plan to me.

Have you tried adjusting it, a long thin screwdriver down the center shaft.

Why was it pumped before?

Well two plumbers have just shrugged btheir shoulders.

One said that limiting woould do the trick. It didnt.

The other has dismantled it and couldnt find anything obviously wrong.

So I am left with a non-functioning chrome thermstatic mixer. Atleast with a manual I could get proper hot water.

If you take the middle knob/handle off there should be a hole down the middle, which you adjust the temperatures.

Perhaps a pic, or model.

And in any case you must have a thermostatic valve with a combi.

what exactly is wrong with your shower? the most common fault with thermostatic valves is the thermostatic cartridge, I cant see how your plumber can take it apart and say there is nothing wrong, you cant tell by looking if the cartridge is faulty and finally what is limiting, do you know what the second plumber done?

The first plumber installed the whole thing - boiler, pipes, and shower. He put in everything. When I called him back to get hotter water, he dismantled the mixer unit and put it all back together again.

The second plumber put on a limiter to restrict the cold water to 3 bar as he
said the flow was overwhelming the mixer unit.

Does the bar value in the boiler itself have to be set to any particuler value ?
At the moment it is set to 1 which is the lowest value acceptable. The Baxi can be set from 1 to 2.5. Should I increase this to give the boiler extra "push"?

I will try to do as DOITALL suggests and take the handle off and see if I can do something. But i am afraid of the thing blowing up as I have no experience of plumbing.

The pipe on the left going into the shower is scalding hot - so it appears the boiler is doing its job - the water just isnt mixing properly .
