They have phoned me (Head Hunted I Beleive Its Called) regarding the positions however i dread going to work at the moment and thats no way to live and i have made these companys aware that should i find something else in the mean time then so be it.

Can you describe the current employer and how they operate, what work they do and how many employees?

What is it about the work that makes you dread it so much?

Sorry to hear that.

Modern working life whatever trade or profession you are in can be very tough these days. With a constant stream of replacements queing up outside staff welfare isn't significantly considered.

The only chance you have these days in the work place is to be top of your game. But make sure you don't come over as more capable than your line manager or he/she will find a way to assasnate your career since you are a threat. Unless that is you too are a psychopath and are able to asasinate them first.

It is inability at workplace politics that results in many of us going self employed. As my roofer mate says "we like to paddle our own canoe". He is absolutely right it is so much better to paddle your own canoe. The downside to such freedom from jeleausy backbighting and lies is the diseconomies of scale and diseconomies of skills. A larger organisation can employ people for parts of the organisation which require different skills to plumbing, like for instance handling staff, doing books, invoicing clients, answering the phone, fielding(filtering out) direct sales calls. When you have to do all those jobs aswel the net result is a lot more hours of work less earning and high stress.

So it's a balancing act.

Pushing trolleys round Azda car park into neet rows on minimum wage has it's apeal. Would certainly pay better than the new starter self employed plumber at present.

With regard to your local employer Caradon Ideal, I would give them a try if they were employing. The thing is there are plenty of those Icoses and Isars all over Hull so anyone who works in Hull has to work on them anyway. With experience they are doable. I mean it is rediculous to have to remove the early ones from the wall to deal with the expansion vessel, always followed by repercussions, if you are lucky all you wil have to do is re glue a very badly fitted condense pipe. Mostly the installs are atrocious. Huge amount of them in bedroom cupboards.(this is another huge area, we know best place for a boiler is flat against a wall hand hight space to sides below and above) But it is doable. There is by all acounts a new boiler about to apear which adresses our needs.
