I didn't realise the significance of rust marks & now I find there are several splits (up to 4" long and crumbling in) in the bath, top on the sides, if that make sense. It seems to be an iron frame bath, covered by enamel.

Questions from a House-management dunce...

Am I right to think the bath with splits like this is a lost cause, must be replaced? Who do I phone about replacing the bath? Plumber? Bathroom installation specialists? Can I hope to re-use the taps (they look fine and match the ones on the sink) or will they need replacing, too? Is there a good strategy for getting a good price for new bathtub purchase & installation? Are there standard size bathtubs?...Do you think I am likely to find a bath that will slot into the existing space, or can I expect to do a load of re-tiling?

thanks in advance.

There are companies that will come along and re-enamel your bath in situ. So you might want to consider googling for this sort of service :)

If the bath has split then replacement is only option, measure your bath, you should be able to find a like for like replacement, a plumber would be able to do the job in half a day depending on how it's fixed, taps can be reused but consider replacing both bath and basin taps if they are old. [plumbers like to fit new so there is no problem with taps failing soon after].
