I am looking to do this project, i know the difficulties with regards to window width and the need to replace the beading. Has anyone done this? does anyone know where i can get advice, buy the window units?(all web inquiries seem to generate PVC window companies and specialist who want my details to unleash sales people!!!)

so all help much appreciated. i am an adequate DIYer and think it will not be rocket science but may be much more complex than i think. so all help much appreciated.

The reason for this is aircraft and neighbours noise and for DIY is no sufficient cash for expensive contractors .

thanks in advance

Double glazed units are designed primarily for heat insulation.

for noise, a bigger airgap is more effective, so secondary glazing is better. This will also reduce any noise leakage around the frames or sashes, since there will be a second, independent barrier.

With modern slim frames it need not be visually obtrusive, and if you have net curtains it can be invisible.

It will also probably be easier and cheaper for you.

Agree, secondary glazing with acoustic laminated, I'll give ya a keen supply only price

Hi,
I've been looking into this myself, so thought I would share my research thus far!

I'm getting acoustic windows done too. I've got too types of sash frame, some old sash window frames with a small rebate for glazing, and some new sashes which have a big rebate.

For the new windows, I reckon I'm going to get 6.8mm acoustic glass with a 15mm air gap (the max I can fit!) and then normal 3mm glass for the inside pane. This looks like its going to be about £80 for two 835mm x 638mm sashes, but I've only had the one quote so far.

For the more traditional windows (with glazing bars) I've researched sashlite, which is available from a number of suppliers. These are just high performance slimline double glazing.

Hope that helps: please let me know how it goes or if you find anything else out!
