Most of you will have seen stuff on the news and media recently re the online safety act, p0rn sites needing to use age verification etc.

Part of the discussion has been around the use of VPNs and how users can easily circumvent by using one. Apparently downloads of VPNs have significantly increased in recent weeks.

This got me thinking. I'm not exactly sure how they'd do it, but I wonder if government will start to look at the use of VPNs and attempt to implement stricter controls around their use?

I suppose many (most?) of us are linked to VPN use through a monthly/annual payment, however that aside I do wonder if changes will be afoot at some point concerning the use of VPNs?

Don’t criminals and pedo’s use vpns ? If I were chinna or pootin I would invest in them.

The networks are heavily infiltrated by law enforcement agencies and, I gather, encryption is a big problem. It's too easy to make it very hard to break. So they can look for some seedy anonymous industrial unit sending huge files using TOR or whatever, but that doesn't mean they can see what it is.
I was told that years ago though, so it will doubtless be different now.

My point was really who controls the vpn routers/storage or whatever it is they do? Is it ultimately any more secure?
It could be more anonymous if you could trust your VPN provider - but who would you trust more - Sky, Vodaphone, Plusnet, Talk Talk or, some anonymous company from god knows where giving you cheap or free access to the dark web ?

Unless you really really know what you are doing you could be giving some very dodgy people access to your world including your money

I wonder if the recent legislation will drive more people onto the dark web, which has far worse content than any porn site you can access on the normal internet - the legislation could terribly backfire

You can guarantee Trumpf will know the people who control the dark web and the vpn’s, or how to flush them out
