hi all, boiler was fine this morning, tonight find its completely dead no display.. no power it seems.. if i switch it on and hold my ear to it i can hear a little whirring noise inside for about 20 seconds after i switch it on each time. im assuming this means that power is going to the boiler? so theres not much point in me finding fuses that may be blown etc?

Anyone any ideas? PCB seems to be a culprit on these friom a google search, also anyone know if BG are still doing the fixed price repair thing?

Thanks for any help folks..

I think they do and if the main PCB has failed its probably the best value!

Of course it cold just be the display board connector!

cheers, surely a display connector coming loose wouldnt shut down the boiler would it?

PCB more likely than out else, they go quick and often .

The new V9 pcb's are used to replace, ( Orange box not Black.).

These boilers are trouble.

Water dripping out of the AAV conveniently falls on to the back to back connector on the display board and the resulting over current overloads the main PCB and overheats the transformer.

You can usually see the ripples on the outside of the black PCB where the transfromer has overheated.

Of course its bad design with no overload protection.

cheers, so is it worth me sourcing a pcb and trying to do myself (keen diyer no boler experience) or just go for a fixed price repair?

Beware, although in most cases no display means main PCB failure it could mean the User Control PCB Kit has failed or also failed, the part number is 170993. When repairing Isar and Icos boilers, we normally go armed with both items and fit the User control kit first as it is a lot cheaper.
