Also this is in accordance with Ideal (the makers of this esteemed boiler) as it was a senior tech engineer who informed me this was the best way to thoroughly clean the HE on this appliance, he also advised that I try and sell my client a new boiler as he hated this appliance to.

Sometimes I think you are so quick to have a pop that you dont read posts correctly.

I stand by what I said. If this Ideal man said use steel on coated aluminium he is wrong.

And the boiler is crap. It needs a service at least once a year or otherwise problems. I would say once every 9 months. A Bad design, by a bad company (best avoid the make). A Ravenheat equivallent. Although cleaned regularly and fitted properly with a good flow through the heat X they are reliable enough. When servicing make sure you have new O rings. I have seen some on direct thermal stores and they work very well. No cycling and full flow through the heat X.
