Hi, I am in the process of buying a house and wonder if anyone can tell me what the function of the item circled on the picture below is please?

It looks like a current transformer that is measuring / monitoring the current being used in the house.

Probably sends data on how much current is being used to a display somewhere in the house.

Have one not quite the same in my house, was supplied by Scottish power before smart meters came out, it was linked to internet and made the estimated bills closer to what you had used within £5 of actual use, so corrected just once a year.
