Can anyone please jog my memory and tell me where spring/retaining clips like these are found, on a vehicle I think, and what they are called.

Metal with a diameter of about 10mm. or less - although there might be bigger ones.

I just can't think where I have seen them.

You sometimes see them on control knobs, ones which push onto a spindle, the knob having a split where they push onto the spindle. The spring tightens the fit of the split onto the controls shaft.

Not just found on vehicles. They can be found on all manner of appliances around the home/workshop, especially older equipment such as food mixers or radiograms etc. (Now THAT is an old piece of equipment!:LOL::LOL: )

Those spring type locking washers etc etc used to be manufactured by a company called called spire, whether they still exist I'm not sure.

So a spire washer was a push on spring steel washer ....you used to have to break them to get them off.

Is there a special tool for them or are they lighter to operate than they look?
