Identifying NYY-J Cable?

Hi,

I picked a 10m length of NYY-J cable over the internet. Unfortunately it is not stamped with the cable type, so I'm not 100% sure it is what it seems.

It is stamped with Eurolite 1 x 1.5mm 300/500 v. I would have thought the voltage rating for this cable is usually 600/1000. It has a black sheaf, white core and is stiff to bend which is to be expected with this cable but is there any other way I can check it is right.

Obviously want the UV protection, so don't want to be palmed off with an inferior cable. Lesson to be learned purchasing through the internet I guess!!

No voltage rating, no BS number, no cable type, no BASEC stamp. I wouldn't be happy with it.

On a side note and out of curiosity, what does NNY-J and NNY-O stand for?

Unless it's from a reputable source over the internet, you will get what you pay for. Why take the chance?

I understand the coding as this:

N normal (0r appropriate standards)
Y thermoplastic insulated PVC
0 that there is no colour coded earth core
J there is a colour coded earth core

I haven't heard of EUROLITE as a cable brand before, I have heard of EUROLITE but they make lighting gear for stage.

They also do accessory plates and light fittings.

I've now managed to get a spec sheet from the supplier for the cable and it is listed as CYKY.

As far as I can tell, this is a cheap Eastern European substitute which doesn't have the same UV/outdoor function or approvals.

Is my understanding right?
