Just noticed every banner ad on this site (and they arent chosen by diynot; www.doubleclick.net pick them) is for giving up smoking..

I could accept that maybe the building trades would have a higher proportion of smokers than some less-manual trades but would the DIYers?

WHat the heck, i decided to make it a poll..

dirty filthy habit, the smoking ban in public places was the best thing this government ever done. apparently cigarettes are more addictive than heroin..........eeerm and i smoke

You are wrong.

The ad's pick up on key words in posts , and rotate the ads to reflect what they think the poster maybe interested in.

For example , this post is about drywall lining a porch. Do the header ad's bear any relation to the topic ?

I didnt realise you'd been looking over my shoulder for the past 3 days, noting every banner ad I've seen, (because that's really the only way you can make such a statement, isn't it?)

Thanks for that brief intro to how internet banner ads work.

Er.. it's one for Ancestry.com today. The smoking poll advert, however, is about sash windows. I'm not sure if this information will enhance the point youre making, because I can't work out what point youre making, if at all.

Totally agree, although i wish they could do something about the smokescreen we have to talk through at the doorway to pubs, bars and restaurants now! I find it slightly pathetic when i see people huddled together outside a doorway in the pouring rain and high winds because they 'can't survive without a fag'.

My auntie used to chain smoke and i thought she'd never, ever give up. She did - a few years ago and she now puts away the money she would have spent on cigarettes and it almost pays for her to go on a cruise every year!

I've never even had a drag of one, and i will never do so.

Are you sure it isn't just random? You say its about sash windows on this thread but i'm viewing the ancestry ad on the smoking poll thread?
