Hi
Have a bare kitchen Ikea units in the box and about to start. Just been informed by gas fitter that Ikea units fit flush against the wall and there is no room for service pipes behind so they have to be fitteed away from the wall which means the worktop doesn't fit.
Has anyone come across this problem and found a workaround?

The unit where the gas supply pipes run is a corner unit with pull out draw so this could also be another problem.
Help!

You could have the pipe running along the top of the floor board then cut out the bottom of the base unit or I have seen gas pipe on the outside wall (if possible) to return where you want it but check with a corgi register first. Not sure if you're allow to chop it into the wall though.

or you could buy breakfast bar work top its 900mm wide then just rip it down with a skillsaw to the required width

you could clip it to the wall as long as it is below the level of the bottom of the carcase.

i have some of these as base units, with an outsize worktop that gives me a 10cm gap at the back (ikea will cut pretty big custom worktops although i am waiting for my 3rd one... delivering them intact is proving problematic for them!).

I'm adding extra wood to the rear of the carcasses to make them freestanding and a lot more rigid. Seems to be okay so far. They are replacing an older series of units that were freestanding too (and much lower quality) and they stood for 20 odd years!
