Hi all,
looking at houses at the moment, and surprised by the number Ive seen that have both a combi boiler and an immersion heater.

The house today had an immersion heater downstairs, small combi boiler upstairs and a water tank up there.

Why on earth would that be?

Anyone think of a reason why I couldnt replace it all with a proper sized combi boiler?

100% sure it was a combi?

could have just been a standard system boiler?

know of a couple of uses of hot water cylinder with a combi,
main one being baths off the cylinder (gravity) with large qty of hot water avalible, then shower off the combi for balanced mains pressure

immersion in the HW cylinder as a backup if the boiler breaks down.

A combi is very suitable for a small property where only one tap will be in use at one time.

If there are two bathrooms it gets more difficult. You are limited not only by the power of the boiler to deliver hot water, but also by the flow of water to the house from the water main.

Are you sure you were looking at combis and not modern condensing system boilers?

Any combi can be plumbed to heat a cylinder as well as radiators.
