I obtain my heating ( central & hot water ) from a communial boiler. This boiler failed this weekend leaving us with none of the above. So that I can at least get hot water when the boiler failes, how easy would it be to fit an immersion heater to my existing tank? Is it just a case of getting the correct size of heater for the tank and wiring up with switch?

Thanks.

ideally emersion heater should be on its own circuit so do you have a spare fuse on the consumer unit.?

The Hot water cylinder should have an emersion heater boss on the side or the top (big brass circular screw in plate about 3" across)

Thanks Brumylad. The communal boiler didn't have fault the Trust who manage it switched it off and didn't tell me. However those nice people at the Trust have offered to install, not only a an immersion heater but a new water tank!!!

Yes, I do have a spare fuse space so it can be installed properly. Thanks again for responding.
