immersion heater when switched on sounds as if it is working but it is not heating up the water. Timeswitch is attached as is a defunked "radiator valve" type cylinder stat. Help greatly appreciated.

sorry no pics. It hasn't got a reset button either! Can't understand why it "fizzes" but doesnt heat up. Would the element be in contact with the long thermostat?
The immersion needs to be replaced.
