Hi all, thanks for reading.
I am hoping to replace my rads myself. I have found either very close (slightly smaller) modern equivalents for most except my 690mm wide rad... can I get away with a modern 700mm rad or should I go smaller (closest I can find in the style is 630mm wide) and get extenders?

I have asked a plumber to do the job but I've asked twice now for photos of what he was planning in fitting but he's not given me anything so I'm thinking best to do it myself and have rads I like.

You may not be able to get away with a 700mm depending on the supply pipes, could one possibly be moved out by that 10mm?

Going smaller means you'll have an extra 35mm either side which can look a bit strange

This is what the pipes at the bottom look like. I imagine I don't have the tools to tinker with them?...

Unless perhaps I have some play here at the ends?

If you haven't got the tools to tinker with the pipes then you definetly cannot go bigger. The only alternative is go smaller and use extenders. I have done most of my rads using extenders and they don't look too bad. One or two I extended the pipe work but my pipes ran along the skirtings so were easy to extend or cut back. I just got fed of doing that so went for extenders eventually.

Have you taken into account the heat output of the style you want at the size you need?

I have always believed women can do the same job as men, sometimes better so question for you is, how do you intent tackling this task

You are going to have to fit the new radiator such that the valve tails line up with the existing pipe. Double panel will cause problems if pipes have no movement
If the wall is plasterboard etc getting solid fixings can be a challenge.
Once the radiator is fitted is the boiler going to need purged of any air if system drained?

BTW extending tails is the easy part.

Have used these often. The tail slides in or out so no cutting involved
