So I have just had a megaflow installed in upstairs cupboard and a new boiler is going in. I have a 5 core wire going from the boiler to the megaflow cupboard and twin and earth from the megaflow cupboard to a wired room stat.

I bought a wired Honeywell programmer to control the heating and water and a digi room stat but my plumber said the water is usually left on 24hrs so having a separate control for that is not needed. He suggested a wireless system but as there is t&e available for a wired stat I thought this would be the best route but I haven't a clue which is the best method. I have the wired kit but am now worried that 5 core isn't enough for the programmer. Does a wireless receiver need less wires and is it usually installed next to the boiler or megaflow?

This is a heating engineer! Ok so I'm better to have a programmer that does both hot water and heating so I can set the water to twice a day, then the wife can advance it if she needs to draw water at any other time.

So am I better to use a wired solution if possible? My heating engineer said if I got a digital programmable thermostat that I could control everything from there. But I feel having a programmer that does everything next to the boiler then a digital room stat is the best way forward – very confused.

Does a wireless receiver use less wires than a wired solution and does installing it next to the megaflow as apposed to the boiler make a difference?

have decent kit oreferably from honeywell, you can buy complete s plan kit includes timer valves etc

Hard wired is the best way rf too many variables and chances of probems with batteries Rf signals etc

Keep the wiring and controls as simple as possible for future maintence

The water on twice a day with 1 hour advance is the best option,i cant understand having water on 24/7 and not something I would recommend in a normal domestic installation

How are you going to control the hot water with a programmable room stat?

AFAIK there isnt a twin channel RF prog room stat on the market....yet

buy yourself a twin channel programmer, Danfoss,Drayton,Honeywell

any of the big manufacturers

This is a heating engineer!

He may think so. Have you seen his ID card which certifies that he is competent to install unvented water heaters?

There is a 2-port zone valve supplied with the kit of parts for the Megaflo (and every other unvented indirect water heater over 15 litres) and he HAS to install it. Go to Heatrae Sadia's website and read the installation instructions for the Megaflo.

If you're using 'Megaflo' as a generic name for an unvented water heater, go to the manufacturer's website. It will say the same.

as onetap has stated the M.V & cylinder stat that comes with the unvented cylinder must be used , this stat & M.V are part of the cylinders safety controls !!!!!!
