I’ve had a few galvanised incinerators over the years. They are too small and rust away within a year.

I’ve now acquired one of these:

How can I convert this to a long lasting incinerator please?

Thanks for your help.

I've got one of those I just drilled about 8 40mm holes around the bottom and then burnt stuff in it, ive had it about 5 years now.....

Its great bonfire night.

Anywhere around the bottom blue banding? What’s the best drill device for this 40mm hole?

With your 5 years of life, have you left it out in the rain when not used or taken any special precautions?

Don't use a grinder. We had a guy killed on site many years ago (not my job thankfully) doing just this when the allegedly cleaned out barrel exploded. The first 300 plus were fine but it only needed one.

For a one off a sharp bolster is the best too; as it automatically dresses the sharp edge down.and leaves the seam intact for strength,

I had an oil drum as a garden incinerator, but it quite quickly rusted away. I then got hold of a large, stainless steel washing machine drum, and bolted three legs to it, to raise it off the ground. Not as big as an oil drum, but anything put in it burns away quickly, due to lots of air holes, and no problem with it rusting away.

Oh wow. Thanks @stevie888.
I can see through the hole at the top that it’s largely empty but it still has some remains of oil in the barrel. Is this dangerous too?

I have a bolster and hammer. Will that go through the top?

Also, is it still safe to drill the holes at the bottom of the barrel?

Thanks again.
