The cold feed and vent has to be moved to the boiler flow pipe before the pump., Therefor the primary connection at the cylinder will need something to get the air out.

Before you go too far can you check that the boiler flow and return have not been crossed by having the pump fitted to pump in the wrong direction?

Yes I checked the flow for the Balmoral 55 is on the left as per the drawing.
