Hi I've just recieved a distressed called from my 104 year old nan to say there going to condem here boiler as the pumps gone now,its an 11 year old potterton combi and it on the British gas monthly payment thing so its fixed for free and serviced if that makes sence .I'm heading to her house later to sort it out but I've just been told she should be able to qualify for a free replacement from homefront from afriend at work.

Warm front scheme is no longer running. If the boiler is on a British Gas plan, why don't you get on to them instead? And ask them why they have condemned a boiler rather than changing the pump? I think the responsibility lies with BG to fix it, it's only a pump. You may find they are trying to sell her a new boiler.
You can phone Interpart yourself, and see if a pump is available for the boiler. Just in case BG say it's not....

I would agree you need to challenge BG about condemning the boiler. If the pump is suspect/failing then no real reason to condemn the boiler as far as I can see.

If she was alone when they called then they may (unintentionally) have frightened her by telling her her boiler is old. Easy for the old folks to get confused. Better if someone else can be with her when she has anything like this again.

Probably a Puma at that age. Virtually all parts are available!

I dont normally go to anyone over 70 unless they have a younger relative present so that no one will ever accuse me of taking advantage of them!

Its very unusual for anyone of that age to be still able to live alone!

The expectation could be that the engineer was not saying the right thing but of course he might have been misunderstood! Perhaps just suggesting that the boiler is old and better replaced.

Just take her fan heaters and pressurise BG to repair it.

Tony
