Hi there, sorry if this has been answered before.
I was asked if I had an initial verification certifcate for the electrics in my house as I had a new consumer unit fitted about a year ago. I cant remember ever having one given and the electrician is no longer about for me to get in contact with.
Im not sure what to do as my friend advised if the install was not advised to my local building control it could be illegal.
Any advise on what to do, I dont want to call building control incase they shut me power off!
Thing is if I want to sell my house dont i need this certificate?
Any help much appreciated.

Who has asked for a certificate? Building control won't be interested, so no need to contact them. You haven't broken any rules, but your electrician may have done.

You should have received an installation certificate when the CU was fitted. As you haven't got one, then the next best thing is to have a Periodic Inspection Report done. This will involve all the tests required for when you fit a consumer unit, plus some more possibly, and the report will contain a list of test schedules and results, as well as a list of any faults.

This can be then put in your home information pack if you want to sell. More importantly, it will prove the condition and safety of your electrics.

Whereabouts in Hampshire are you?

Incidentally, if you really need an Installation Certificate as opposed to a PIR, it is possible to test the CU on its own, with a test socket fitted nearby. This will not involve any testing of the downstream electrics, other than the test socket, so won't prove the safety of your house electrics, but will provide you with an EIC.

This is normally done when a property has had the power cut off and the electricity supplier requires an EIC before it will restore power. This happens when a property has been rented out and the previous tenants haven't paid the bills!
