Guidance Notes 3 and Brian Scaddens Inspection, Testing and Certification was all I needed to pass my C&G 2391.
Yes, I have that also and it's a good read.

I used BS7671:2001 (As it was then) Guidance note 3 and Guide to 16th Edition as it was then. I would say GN3 is industrial standard and is a must. And as a member of IET I get discount on their books so of course I used the IET guides.
