I have a Hager consumer unit. On the RCD side the main switch is 63A - 0.03A with 3x B32 MT132 (one for cooker and 2 ring mains) and one 16A M616 for electric immersion. There are two unused 'slots'. I am proposing to use another B32 MT132 and cable the same size as the cooker circuit for the tumble drier dedicated supply. Cable clipped to wall in garage from consumer unit, 6 metre run, through wall into utility room terminating at a fused outlet - again same type used for cooker. Whirlpool state '22 AMP hard wired supply'. Does this sound ok?

If it's made for the American market, what voltage is it supposed to be? Is it single phase?

Chances are it expects 220v (we get 230v officially, and its normally around 240v) at 60hz (we get 50hz, would would result in the motor running slower and hotter, and possibly failing) , also possibly relevant, is its expecting the voltage to ground to be 110v on each of the live conductors (the insulation on the conductors may not be suitably rated for 240v off ground)

bought in a garage sale at an American air base, was it? ;)

do not try to connect an american 240V appliance to british supplies directly. They usually have some 110V components.

Since the 110V stuff is generally quite low power you should be able to use an autotransformer to create a center tap while the bulk of the drier runs directly off the british mains.

Sounds like it would be cheaper to buy a UK one and use the Whirlpool to stop the ****** parking in your field...

Thanks for your observations. I made the mistake of mentioning what I need the 22 AMP supply for! Will what I propose be electrically sound as a 22 AMP supply?

P.S. The appliance is made in USA for the British market and is fully UK electrical compatable. It just needs a 22 AMP hard wired supply.

being American, is it as tall as you?

I would still be inclined to get rid of it-

22A nearly the same as 2 x 3 kw fires running

causes you grief and £££££ getting it connected

I would wire it like a cooker circuit with a cooker switch and cooker outlet plate. 6mm cable should be fine unless the run is unusually long.
