I am going to be using props and strongboys to install a lintel and make a new door opening in a block built house constrcuted 2009. I'm pretty comfortable with the plan of attack but have one question.

All guidance I have seen has suggested that you wait 24 hours whilst mortar hardens around the new lintel and only then can you remove props and knock out the opening. In the interests of making as much progress as I can in one day (I have each side of the cavity wall to do), is it safe to install the lintel and immediately knock out the opening, but obviously leave in the props and only remove once mortar has set?

Pack the joints with slate, and carry on immediatly - including removing the props
