I live in a 1937 bungalow and am finding cold areas with mold spots developing. In particular, the press in the living room wall is deep and I guess the back of it is against the outer layer of bricks of the house. So there is no insulation and it gets very cold attracting moisture. Any ideas for how to improve it? Could I just cut some insulated plasterboard and stick on top? It will affect the depth but at least if will be warmer?

Cold doesn’t attract moisture, it’s more likely from a lack of ventilation or from chimney.
Is yours ventilated.? Do you dry washing indoors?

What I mean is that its a cold surface, where moisture in the air can condense like a cold window. The bottom section with the doors sometimes has water droplets running down the back wall in cold weather. The chimney is blocked off. Washing is dried in a different room with a dehumidifier.

So the problem is self inflicted, you are causing the damp by drying in the home ( regardless of where it is) you have inadequate ventilation, a disused chimney must be ventilated . You don’t condensation in a warm ventilated property.
