I installed a 9.5kW triton opal shower almost 12 months ago. Everthing fine until the unmistakable smell of melting insulation yesterday
Obviously I isolated and stopped using the shower immediately. Opened up to find that insulation around neutral connection to the heater unit itself was badly melted. This is an internal connection from the terminal block to the heater unit, the 10mm2 cable from consumer unit to the terminal block is fine.
Sounds like a bad connection to me, especicially as the lucar type blades and receptacles are black with carbon. Shoud be covered by the guarantee but unfortunately I've lost the receipt.
Anyone seen this before? If its just a case of renewing the contacts then I can do that myself rather than call a sparky out to tell me as much. Is it worth the risk for the sake of £100-£200 for a new shower?
MORAL: Keep the receipt
