Insurance increase. How much? You’re having a laugh!

I had heard that motor/motorcycle insurance had gone down this year. Martin moneysavingexpert Lewis said to check elsewhere when you get your renewal as it will almost certainly be cheaper than last year but could possibly be cheaper still, elsewhere. Well, I’ve just had my renewal through. I paid £139 last year. This year…..£61.65. I've still checked elsewhere but I can’t beat that price so I’ll take it!
My car insurance renewal was £100 less, I shopped around and saved another £80 on top.

The insurance companies must be re-aligning where people live. Wife's car insurance went up £80. did find a quote that was similar to last years premium but the excesses nearly trebled.

I’ve been poached!
Had a letter from Bennett’s bike insurance (brokers) which I assumed was my insurance certificate. Been on the side table a few days. I've just opened and looked at it - it was a letter saying my insurance was £59 and was going to automatically renew. I phoned them up and said "Don’t renew, I’ve already done it". I’m insured with Swinton. They said they didn’t deal with Swinton. I said I had the renewal. The bloke told me that I’d been poached - I must have got a quote last year so they knew my renewal date and tried it on. Looking at the email again, it was from MCN (brokers) and they did! Oh well, I told Bennett’s not to renew, I didn’t want to be paying twice. Damn, that two quid I could have saved.

a misleading renewal? maybe you could get compensation. :D
Nah, my fault. I didn’t take much notice of the email and just assumed it was from my existing briker.

Careful with brokers renewals.
Always check that they have transferred the correct details to the insurer.
I always check and inevitably there are mistakes, sometimes so bad that if I renewed without checking I would be uninsured.
Worse one was that bike was kept at my address when in fact I keep it in my workshop, half a mile away.
If it got stolen they wouldn't pay a penny.
And the pillion passenger business: somehow they always exclude it on renewal.

Thanks for that. I phoned up the 'new' insurer and told them I didn’t want it to go ahead. It wasn’t due to start until the 30th of this month anyway. They wanted to charge me a £35 cancellation fee so I told them they can feck right off, it’s free to cancel a policy that hasn’t started! They then changed their mind and as a 'goodwill gesture' they said they would waive the fee. Cheeky buggers. Anyway, policy not starting and I've had confirmation of a full refund coming to me. Got back on to my original insurer and reinstated the auto renewal. I’ll read any more stuff a bit more thoroughly in future!
