Hi all,

I took all my interior doors off to sand and paint. I then replaced the brass hinges for identical chrome ones and now none of them will close! The top right hand side (door handle side) is banging on the frame.

What do i need to do to solve, if i put the brass hinges back it fits perfect! Do i need to chop a bit out of the door or frame for the top hinges to sit further in?

Thanks

If the lock side is striking the door casing it suggests that either the leafs of the new hinges are thicker than those of the old hinges. Check if the new hinge sits above the surface on both the door and the casing (assuming that they are chopped-in conventionally - some older houses have the hinges double chopped into the door alone). The solution is to chop the hinges in further with a sharp chisel so that they sit flush to the door and casing surfaces.

Ensure screw heads fit the countersink hole correctly in the new hinge , if they stick out even a mm or two they will cause the door to foul.
