Hi all,

New to the forum. Been around a little while viewing and can usually find the answers I need, but not on this occasion.

Currently have an intermediate switch on the top of the landing and after decorating have purchased a new switch, though the terminals are labelled different.

Could anyone give any advise to help?

Use your multi-meter to establish how the labeling of the switches matches.

If you put a pair in the top and pair in the bottom like your picture
You usually can’t go wrong.
Famous last words!

Do you have instructions with the new mk one, your existing is easy to work out.

Intermediates switch across the strappers
II in one position
X in second position

SLEEVE THE BARE COPPER EARTH WIRES AND CONNECT THEM

If the back box is metal then connect BOTH earth to the earth terminal in the box.

Given that the important Earth connections have not been made in this switch it would be advisable to check the Earth continuity in other switches and fittings.

This differs to the current setup but I presume this is the same as switching II and X. Right?

Thanks again for your help.

As long as the Brown and Blue are in the same cable. then whether in left or right hole will make no difference, only will affect whether the other switches are up or down in certain combinations of switching, which some people are OCD about.

As stated above. Also all blues must be sleeved brown as they are phase conductors and not neutral conductors. Extremely poor job. Your entire house wiring is in question.
