intermittent current to outside lights?

I posted this at the end of another post but giving it its own limelight now...

I have two Up & Down light fitted to the front of our garage and they randomly decide to work or not. They are on a timer but its rare that all 4 bulbs come on at the same time. Is this a problem with the current? For example, I can come home one evneing and three bulbs are on OK. The next night it might be two of the four that are on etc etc. All the bulbs are fine. Any ideas on how to fix - something simple for an electrician?

sounds like dodgy fittings to me, rather than a fixed wiring problem

thanks - perhaps you're right disappointing as it is.
idn't expect it to happen to two of them.

if they're c**p fittings then it's likely to happen to them both

Or loose wiring. Try tightening all the terminals, including those inside the light fittings assuming you can get at them.
