Hello

I was getting some architrave ready for painting today. I scraped the paint from the hinges (all the hinges in this house were painted) and was surprised to see what looks like a hot dip galvanised finish.

I've not seen it before - is it a "thing"? How do you normally deal with them? Normally I dislike painted hinges but if these are hot dip then presumably they are designed to be painted?

Why don't you just replace the hinge for one you prefer ? Hinges are cheap

Hinges are cheap but never quite the same size. Holes are in slightly different places which means filling and re drilling, then they'll probably need packing out...

Easier to paint.
