We are going to redecorate our son's bedroom, which is the first floor of an extension off the main body of the house and is quite chilly, as it has a long exterior wall.

I thought it would be a good opportunity to dry line the wall, I reckon some battens screwed to the wall at the right intervals and to the appropriate thickness with Knauf rocksilk slabs between would be easy and effective. I would then cover with plasterboard and, because we don't want the mess of skimming with plaster, cover the joints, fill the screw holes and simply paper over with a heavy lining paper.

Obviously sockets would need refitting on dry lining boxes and the skirting would need removing then refitting.

Good idea?

Personally, I'd skim it and save on the hassle of filling, sanding, and papering. It's a much more durable and easy to maintain finish.
