Hi all,

I had a BT line installed way back last year (with PlusNet).

I haven't had the modem connected for over 6 months as I've been doing all sorts of bits with the house. Connected it today but it wouldn't connect.

Could the line have got disconnected after a while?
It doesn't look like the pole has suffered damage in our recent high winds.

Before I contact BT / PlusNet, I'll try the test socket tommorow with a phone, but are there any other ways of checking the actual line is good?

Can you make (landline) 'phone calls?
Do you have dial tone at the point you plug the modem in?

Get a micro-filter pack and plug that into the master socket to see if the modem connects. You probably had one included with the modem.

What a idiot

I was connected to the broadband WAN port rather than the DSL port. Weirdly, I always assumed rj45 sockets were keyed differently so it never occured to me I might have done that

Broadband is ok although my line speed has dropped from 78Mbps (last year) to 38Mbps, when I did another speed test I was getting only 20Mbps.
I am very close to the cabinet, could the low speed just be contention issues?
