Most intruder alarm guides suggest using a 3 amp fuse for the fcu. If using 1.5mm flex will a 13 amp fuse be ok? Why do they always suggest 3 amp?

because most alarms only use less than 1amp at 240v so why would you need a 13amp fuse.

The fuse in the FCU is to protect the flex. Most installers wouldn't dream of using 1.5mm flex to an alarm so they don't fit 13A fuses. We'd use 0.75mm or 0.5mm so 3A is more appropriate. Most panels are protected with a 1A 20x5mm fuse anyway...
