Israel's current defence budget is about 9% of GDP, when I was there in the 70's it was over 30% of GDP.
This is a country roughly the size of Wales boyo. They've been on a war footing for more years than I can remember and defending themselves from invaders for even longer.

It's not the sort of thing that is shouted about for personal security reasons, but is sometimes a topic at my local JSCN support group.

I think the trouble with Iran having nukes compared to say, Russia, China, North Korea etc is that Russians, Chinese, North Koreans etc all want to live so they’d think long and hard before using them first. Iranians on the other hand, think there’s some kind of glory in death so they wouldn’t give a flying one about using it first.
