DId anyone else find those holes in the sand a bit odd.?? I mean 16 ton of tnt at the other end of the hole would have made then perhaps, go a little rough around the edges? I wonder if they went off.
There should have been a mountainlike collapse, 633 squadron style, no??
The centrifuges aren't all that big or complicated, so I expect they can set some up elsewhere.
The U would have been stored as a gas apparently, quite big containers s but only "a few trucks".
It's not that useful unless you can make the containment such that the subcritical masses are forced together by a clever 3D explosion. Easy to get that wrong, hence all the tests. You only need about 40kg of the stuff. It's19/13 the density of lead - had to look that up.
U isn't ideal for a Dirty Bomb by itself. You really need the Plutonium 239 that comes out from the reaction chain in a reactor, That's a much nastier chemical because it's (even) more toxic to organisms. Both of them dissolve in water - hence soil etc and last for thousands of years. They're alpha emitters, not highly penetrative unless they get inside you. The radiation then buggers your cell cycles leading to cancers etc.
I looked up "suitcase bombs". These were claimed in the 50's, but may never have existed, it's not clear. They would need maintenance and been highly technical. SUV sized bombs are perfectly feasible though, it says.
US, Russia and Isreal are supposed to have made small nukes.
