Is 10mm expansion gap required for waste pipes?

Is an expansion gap required for polypropylene plastic pipework fitted internally?

At college i dont remember them mentioning this for waste pipework (they did say we need it for guttering).

As far as i was aware, the pipe should be pushed all the way to the stop line in the fitting. But reading Screwfix website, they recommend a 10mm gap for all fittings.
