Is a lead saddle for a ridge/hip union standard practice

Hi,

I've had some quotes for replacing the main roof - using a dry fix ridge and hip system

One of the quotes details using a lead saddle for the ridge/hip mitred union.

Is this standard/best practice ?

I wouldn't say its standard practice but it will outlast anything else.
