IS GLUE EVER ENOUGH?!

Ive been looking at a lot of wood glues and they all seem to claim to "form a bond stronger than the wood itself" even standard PVA. Does this mean what it sounds like? and if so aren't they all suitable to fix my treads to battens as essentially the battens and tread would just perform as a single piece of wood?

Andy, you really are going to far with your questions. Like your doing a PHD in adhesives. Most of us would get two bits of wood the same as you're using and glue them together and see if it works. The glue is cheap for the job you're doing and its been designed by some pretty brainy people to do a job far in excess of the job you're doing. Some of those mentioned are for use under water. What you need to do now is go on and do some test pieces and come back and tell us all about it.
