Converting fully pumped heating systems at the mo (combi in, back boiler out, new copex in with inset fire and new fireplace). Some of the fires are delayed, would it be safe to leave the fire to be used (with the bbu de-commisioned) I.E. leave the circs open until fires arrive (approx 2 weeks)

Back boiler needs to be completley de-commisioned as in gas valve disconnected and connection to it capped. Why are you putting a new copex in for the fires is the chimney in a bad way.

No, its a council contract and thats what they stated is required. Pulling old ones out and most if not all are in good nick. Sick of the sight of the scrapyard Their contract manager asked if we could leave the fires on rather than leave them without a fire . One of their plumbers said they've done it before but i said i would'nt do it so i'm just making sure you cant in case they complain later. Cheers

If you just isolate the gas to the boiler and leave it in place the fire could still be used.

You cannot use the fire if you remove the BBU

Assuming you want to drain the boiler, then the gas to the BBU most be isolated and capped.

The flue and the rest can all stay so you can still use the fire.

Cheers i'll have a butchers on tuesday, dont really know a lot about bbu's (older plumber on hols) as theres only one 15mm gas feed how do you separate this from the boiler whilst leaving the fire on ?

remove the gas valve on the BBU and cap off the feed between the tap ( feeds BBU and fire ) and valve

Also have to drain bbu and seal off the pipes out through the chimney fabric to prevent poc getting out through them.

CORGI will say that it should not be done on an ongoing basis "because the boiler will not get serviced and therefore the flue will not be regularly tested".

I am not advocating any proper logic there, just repeating what they say!

It would only be for a week or two at the most, just having a bit bother getting certain fires from the stockist we use. There's over 200 houses to do, only half way through.
